Scala Rider G4 Firmware

June 3, 2010 – 11:37 am

One of the biggest advantages to purchasing a Scala Rider G4 or a Scala Rider G4 Powerset is that their firmware is user upgradeable! If Cardo Systems finds a bug in the units or they simply want to give you more control over the configuration of them, new firmware can be downloaded into the Scala Rider G4 using the supplied cable and your PC.

This has always been a selling point but now it is reality. The Cardo Upgrades software is available online at http://www.cardoupgrades.com/ which you can install on your Windows PC running Windows 7, Vista or XP (it seems to work fine on Windows 2000 as well but isn’t available for 64-bit Windows operating systems, Linux or MacOS yet).

To download the Cardo Upgrades software you will need to enter your name, email address and the serial number from your Scala Rider G4. After you install the Cardo Upgrades software and connect your Scala Rider G4, you can check for updates which will download and install new versions of the firmware for you.

This version of the Cardo Upgrades software also allows you to configure some of the features of your Scala Rider G4. You can change the following settings from your PC:

  • Assign FM radio stations to your six presets
  • Set your Status Announcements language
  • Disable/enable VOX (voice activation for the intercom)
  • Disable/enable RDS (selects strongest signal for FM station)

Note: As of June 3rd, 2010, the latest version of the Scala Rider G4 firmware available for download is version 2.2

As always, if you are having problems that a firmware upgrade doesn’t fix, let Cardo Systems know. They can’t fix it if they don’t know about it.

  2. If you are listening to music or have the intercom on it is not necessary to disconnect them to receive incoming phone calls or GPS instructions. The safety factor of this unit alone makes the scala rider g4 worth purchasing. The ability to communicate with other riders without distracting from driving is good for all bikers.
