Hi-Vis is in
February 9, 2009 – 2:35 pmLet’s face it, motorcycle safety begins with prevention. Good motorcycle safety courses help prepare you for what life has to throw at the motorcyclist. But what you really need is to get the people driving the SUVs and minivans to pay attention to driving and not their cell phones! Well, manufacturers of motorcycle apparel have been trying to help you out.
First the manufacturers started adding Phoslite reflective strips and piping to jackets and pants. Good idea but Phoslite only helps at night. Next they started making apparel in lighter colors; silver and then yellow. Now the latest in attention grabbing apparel ideas is to use high-visibility (hi-vis) or fluorescent yellow fabric. This fabric is easy to spot in daylight and appears to glow around dusk and dawn. For the safety conscience motorcyclist, there is nothing better. However, hi-vis yellow apparel was usually limited to winter jackets and vests:
That’s about to change…
The Intake Series2 jacket is probably one of Tourmaster best summer jackets. It lets a tremendous amount of air through it’s mesh exterior but has armor and padding over the elbow, shoulders and back for protection. It normally come in Black, Red, Blue, Silver and White. Soon, you’ll have another option. Tourmaster will be introducing a new hi-vis yellow Intake Series2 jacket in time for summer.
Not to be left out, Fieldsheer is introducing a new summer jacket for the touring crowd. It is a 3/4 length jacket, like their Aqua Tour jacket, made out of mesh material like the Tourmaster Intake Series2 jacket above. It is called the Air Tour Mesh Jacket and will be offered in Silver and Hi-Vis Yellow.

Fieldsheer has also redesigned the Fieldsheer Breeze jacket. Again they have made the jacket a little longer and are offering it in Hi-Vis Yellow. It is called the Ladies Breeze2 Jacket.
Again for the safety minded rider, pants have always posed a problem. You always had a choice in color but that choice was usually limited to black or silver (if you were lucky). Again, Tourmaster is helping you out. Rumor has it that they are going to be offering the Tourmaster Venture pants in a hi-vis yellow as well.
We hope this helps make your day a little brighter ![]()
PS – We will post pictures as soon as they become available. And we will keep you posted on availability of these products.

this i can’t wait for, they sound great , with the pads in the needed places. i love the bright colors for day and reflective areas for night. i saw a truck rearend a car yesterday. it totally reminded me of my co-worker getting rearended on his motorcycle at a redlight,he survived with no injurys.sold what was left. people do not see us, in stopped traffic. this hi-vis has got to help, that and being as safe as a person can.
