Getting into your rain gear
November 12, 2008 – 10:38 amLet’s face it, when it’s about to rain, getting into your rain gear on the side of the road isn’t something you want to take a long time to do. But at one point in time, we have all had to throw our rain gear on quickly before drowning.
Rain Pants
As someone put it to me one time, putting on your rain pants on the side of the road looks like you’re doing a one legged rain dance. But yes, there is a trick to doing a lot easier and faster.
Take an ordinary plastic grocery bag and put your foot in it, boot and all. Then, while holding the bag over your feet, stick that leg into your rain pants. You might have to point your toes some but your foot will slide right through the rain pant leg. Using the same bag, repeat for the other leg. It’s free and it doesn’t take up much room but it will save you a lot of time getting those rain pants on.
Jacket Liners
We all have a jacket with a waterproof/water-resistant liner. Some liners are great and others are nothing more than windbreakers. Either way, there are times when you have to use them to try to keep the water off of you.
The first thing to remember is, it’s about to rain and you are going to get wet. Don’t spend 5 minutes trying to get your liner back into your jacket. You are going to be taking it back off after you pass through the rain shower anyway. So simply take off your jacket, put the liner on and put your jacket on over it. Quick and easy. It also makes it easy to take it off after the rain shower.
We hope these tips help the next time you find yourself facing a rain shower. Ride safe…
